To provide professional instruction and mentoring of the highest level that motivates students and athletes to excel and to develop self-confidence, strength of character, and a positive attitude.

Headfirst Camp Program Goals:

To challenge each student or athlete at levels he or she has yet to experience, while simultaneously giving each camper the best, most fun experience he or she has ever had.
To develop and push each player to the limit of his or her potential in his or her sport or activity and help he or she realize his or her dreams.
To develop a style of play thinking is unique to Headfirst – a style of thinking that emphasizes effort over outcome and the “we” over the “I”.
To aid in the emotional and personal development of each of our campers – to help them understand the importance of commitment, the value of thinking outside of themselves while taking responsibility for their own actions and developing a work ethic.

Headfirst Camps’ philosophy is a reflection of our company’s culture and strategy. We foster an environment where we understand the fact that great leadership will generate great people who, in return, will create a positive and friendly atmosphere for our guests: the campers and their parents. Headfirst achieves high remarks for both camp value and customer service because we truly care about each child and family who attends our camp programs.

Our History

Washington, DC natives and childhood friends Rob Elwood and Brendan Sullivan started Headfirst in 1996 with the vision of providing top-notch sports and summer camp programs for kids in the Washington, DC area. Years later, Headfirst’s award-winning day camps have earned the reputation as the one of the best summer camps in country, making a difference in the lives of thousands of young campers while providing them with exceptional summer experiences they will remember for a lifetime. During the past two years, Headfirst Camps has become the official camp operator of several Major League Baseball teams including the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, and New York Yankees.

Our Philosophy

What makes Headfirst the #1 summer camp in the Washington, DC area? There are so many reasons! We’re able to host our camps at the first-rate facilities of the area’s top schools. Our experienced, top-notch staff and excellent camper to counselor ratio (6:1 for younger campers under 7 years and 8:1 for older campers) allow our campers to benefit from individual and small group learning, whether they are doing an art project, a science experiment, learning to swim or perfecting their athletic skills. Our emphasis on “effort over results” allows campers to discover, make friends and have fun in a positive environment.

At Headfirst, our day campers learn, have fun and are continually encouraged to realize their potential and seek out their dreams. Activities are child-centered, and emphasize social development, character development, leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship. The goal in each activity is to build self-esteem by encouraging children to feel capable and confident in their abilities. Effort over results is the philosophy upon which Headfirst Camps was built.
