We welcome all that bubbles, fizzes, floats, and EXPLODES during this week of kitchen chemistry and foodie physics! Campers learn the science of combustion and reactions by devising delectable dishes and stirring up surprising snacks! Headfirst Summer Camps is the only place where edible eruption is the goal, not the #fail…don’t try these creative concoctions at home!

3, 2, 1, BLAST OFF… into a universe of adventure during this week of space exploration! We’ll test rocket prototypes, design our own space suits, and map the sky with culinary constellations and moon models! We know that the sky isn’t the limit…it’s merely the starting line. Our future astronomers and astronauts will SOAR in our out-of-this-world week of camp!

During this spoooooky week, campers will learn alongside the summer’s coolest ghouls! We’ll brew potions, levitate ghosts, craft our own monster identities, and have a frightening amount of fun in our ghastly games. Campers will explore important STEAM concepts like echolocation, bridge engineering, precision and accuracy, shape attributes, and predator and prey relationships. Through this week’s challenges, campers just might become the next Frank Einstein!

A missing gemstone. A mysterious note. A glass of spilled milk! To find out whodunit, campers must sift through clues, solve puzzles, and unravel mysteries. Employing real-life techniques, campers will examine the exciting world of forensics, including dusting for fingerprints and deciphering invisible ink messages. The week will culminate with their biggest mystery yet, challenging campers to strengthen their collaboration and critical thinking skills. Will they crack the case? The game is afoot!

As things start to go missing around various Headfirst sites, our campers are called to investigate! From missing icees to lost wristbands, something or someone is “borrowing” from our site – but who could it be?! Campers will investigate the animals living in their own DC-area backyards to figure out whodunit. This week’s mix of zoology, ecology and wildlife habitat study will keep even the most exotic animal lovers satisfied. Flying squirrels? Opossums? Pill bugs? We’ll be taking a closer look at those and many more. Investigations will include everything from their prints to their droppings. By staying persistent, they’ll be able to apprehend the suspect to avoid any more missing goods… and may even make a furry friend along the way!

Pack your headlamp and spelunking gear as we trek into the abyss of the world’s favorite caverns! If you want a camp that really ROCKS…and to differentiate between a stalactite and a stalagmite…Caves and Crystals is the week for you! Get to know the habitat of bats and bears, as well as the canvas for paleolithic communication! Campers will crack open geodes, explore hibernation and echolocation through play, and even create cave paintings!

Our Sprouting Scientists shine bright this week as we explore radical rainbows, lustrous prisms, and shadow play! Campers will experiment will photosensitive materials, combining pigments, and DIY kaleidoscopes. Whether it’s secret mirror messages, creating a human sundial, or glitter rainbow slime that sparks your campers’ curiosity, this hands-on week will illuminate imagination and inspire the next Newton!

We embrace all that stretches, squishes, and sticks in this ooey-gooey week of camp! Through hands-on chemistry, we’ll combine materials that can grow, glow, and color change before our eyes! From experimenting with the best slime recipe, to exploring the wackiest, weirdest, and coolest creatures of our world, we will be experts in the world of sensory science!
